About the Book

Government of India has made Right to Education as a Fundamental Right which pinpoints the importance of Education. Eleventh Five Year Plan observes that despite the expansion that has occurred, it is evident that the system is under stress to provide a sufficient volume of skilled human power to cater to the needs of the economy.

This Book on "Organisations, Administration and Functions of Higher Education" describes organisations in terms of their functions as well as performance, which have been critically analysed and remedial measures suggested. The structure of Higher Education organisations today suffers from many problems like appointment of Vice-Chancellors who are to provide leadership and excellence to higher education. The system is full of corrupt practices. In addition there are problems of decentralisation, delegation, supervision, control and direction. Higher Education has been in the hands of politicians who appoint people of their choice to manage higher education.

This book would be of great use to policy-makers, planners and decision-makers as well as to all those concerned with Higher Education. It would be of great relevance to the Departments of Education in the Universities, Vice-Chancellors, Principals in Colleges, Faculty Members in Higher Education to promote academic excellence and a super knowledge society in this century.

Chapters have been supplemented with charts, graphs, tables, illustrations and case studies to make the reading authentic and interesting.
